Damon scores twice in Yankees' win

Yankees at the plate: Johnny Damon scored a pair of runs, both on base hits by Gary Sheffield. In the first, Sheffield doubled in Damon, and the next inning, Sheffield singled the leadoff man in as part of a three-run inning. Damon also drove in a run in the inning, as did Alex Rodriguez. Bubba Crosby's two-run homer in the eighth, his second, lifted the Yankees to the victory.

Tigers at the plate: Detroit plated runs in three of the first four innings, getting RBIs from Magglio Ordonez, Ivan Rodriguez and Chris Shelton. The Tigers busted out for three runs in the fifth, when Rodriguez drove in the second of his three RBIs on the day. Shelton added a solo homer, his fourth, in the seventh.

Yankees on the mound: Chien-Ming Wang started for New York, pitching 2 1/3 innings before being hit on the right leg by a Curtis Granderson ground ball. Wang allowed two runs on three hits, striking out three without walking a batter. Tanyon Sturtze allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Tigers on the mound: Nate Robertson made his sixth start of the spring, allowing five runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings, though three of the runs were unearned. Robertson struck out three and hit one batter, throwing 96 pitches, 63 for strikes. Jamie Walker struck out two in a scoreless inning. Joel Zumaya allowed two runs in the eighth, taking the loss.

Grapefruit League records: Yankees 13-13; Tigers 16-11.

Up next: The Yankees travel to Disney World on Monday for a game against the Braves at 7:05 p.m. ET. Shawn Chacon takes the mound for New York, while Jorge Sosa starts for Atlanta.

The Tigers host the Astros on Monday at 1:05 p.m., when Justin Verlander squares off against Houston's Fernando Nieve.
