The left-hander pitched six innings in Wednesday's 6-4 Game 1 win at Minnesota's Target Field, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits as the Yankees defeated the Twins, 6-4.
Speaking earlier this month concerning short rest, Sabathia said, "I'm prepared to do it if they need me to do it. We'll have to see what happens in this first round. I just want the ball.
"If I've got a chance to pitch and I've got enough rest, I want to be out there every chance I get."
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Sabathia was scheduled to throw a light session on Saturday, tossing on flat ground, and that Sabathia is prepared to pitch if needed in Game 4. Girardi said there is no pitch count on Sabathia in that potential game.
"We'll just watch how he's pitching," Girardi said.
