Yanks ask Mussina for Interleague win

Yanks ask Mussina for Interleague win

Mike Mussina will make his 12th start of the season for the Yankees against San Francisco lefty Noah Lowry as the Yankees close out a three-game series with the Giants on Sunday afternoon.

Mussina holds the most Interleague wins among Major League pitchers with 20. More importantly, the Yankees have played errorless ball behind Mussina in all of his starts this season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The Yankees will leave San Francisco on Sunday and finish their road trip with a three-game series in Baltimore.

Pitching matchup
NYY: RHP Mike Mussina (3-4, 5.10 ERA)
Mussina surrendered seven hits and three runs in Colorado's thin air on Tuesday, striking out six and walking two in six innings against the Rockies. Despite picking up the loss, Mussina put up his third quality start in a row.

SF: LHP Noah Lowry (6-6, 3.74 ERA)
Lowry worked into the seventh inning in nine of his first 13 starts of the season, but the left-hander got knocked out after just 5 2/3 innings in his last outing against the Brewers. Lowry allowed nine hits, the most he had given up in a start this season, and Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that he left too many pitches up in the strike zone.

Player to watch
Lowry has limited Bobby Abreu to two hits in nine career at-bats, but Abreu has the most experience against Lowry and has hit safely in 18 of 21 games in June. Abreu has also collected a double off a Giants starter in each of the past two games.
