Yankees blanked by Phillies

|
PHILLIES 4, YANKEES 0
at Clearwater, Fla.
Wed., March 26

Phillies at the plate: Jimmy Rollins drove in two runs for the Phillies with a bases-loaded single off Chien-Ming Wang, and Jayson Werth and Brett Myers delivered RBIs as well, though neither got a hit. Pat Burrell and Geoff Jenkins helped the cause with two hits apiece.

Yankees at the plate: New York couldn't figure much out against Opening Day starter Brett Myers and prospect Drew Carpenter. Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada mustered the only two hits through the first eight innings.

Phillies on the mound: Myers made his final Grapefruit League start and looks ready to start the season on March 31 against Washington. The right-hander went five scoreless innings, and allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out three.

Yankees on the mound: Wang, the Yankees' Opening Day starter, got ground balls, but they found holes in the second inning, when he surrendered all four of Philadelphia's runs. Joba Chamberlain worked two-thirds of an inning in relief, and recorded a walk and a strikeout.

Grapefruit League Records: Phillies (12-15-1), Yankees (13-10-2).

Up next for the Phillies: Adam Eaton heads to Lakeland to take on Detroit at Joker Marchant Stadium for a 1:05 p.m. ET start. J.C. Romero and Tom Gordon are also scheduled to pitch. Kenny Rogers starts for Detroit.

Up next for the Yankees: Immediately following a pregame ceremony in which the Yankees' Spring Training ballpark will be renamed in honor of George M. Steinbrenner, left-hander Kei Igawa will make his first start and fifth appearance of the spring, facing off against Pirates left-hander Tom Gorzelanny in a 1:15 p.m. contest. The game closes out the Yankees' exhibition schedule in Tampa, with two games remaining at Miami.
