Yankees, Bank of America and the USO honor Veterans

The New York Yankees, along with Bank of America and the USO, today announced that Yankee Stadium’s Great Hall will host approximately 150 volunteers to help assemble approximately 5,000 USO Big Apple Packs for active servicemen and servicewomen on Thursday, November 15, at 9:30 a.m. Yankees front office employees, Bank of America volunteers, service members and veterans will be present to help prepare care packages for those serving in our Armed Forces.

On hand to lend support to the cause will be New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi and former Yankees pitcher David Cone, who will help assemble packs with various items, including Yankees memorabilia. The USO will distribute the packs to troops serving in Afghanistan during this holiday season.

“It’s an honor for me to take part in this event to support the men and women of the Armed Forces, who do so much to keep us safe,” Girardi said. “These care packages let our servicemen and servicewomen know that we are thinking about them and recognize the tremendous sacrifices they make for us on a daily basis.”

Established in 1941, the USO lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families millions of times each year at hundreds of places worldwide. Relying on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities, the USO aims to provide opportunities for the civilian and military communities to join together in service. The Yankee Stadium care package event is just one of many initiatives the organization takes part in on an annual basis that helps provide critical support to those who need them most, including forward-deployed troops, military families, wounded warriors and their families and the families of the fallen.
