Cortisone shot likely to help Teixeira

NEW YORK -- Frustrated by recurring discomfort in his left wrist, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira had a cortisone injection administered on Thursday after the Yankees' 10-2 loss to the Indians and does not expect to miss any more time.

Teixeira sat for three games after experiencing tendinitis in the wrist, the pain in which stemmed from a play last Wednesday against the Orioles in Baltimore, according to Teixeira. The first baseman went 0-for-2 on Thursday before exiting following the Indians' nine-run seventh inning.

"I absolutely hate missing games," Teixeira said. "I took three days off, and I thought it'd be better. It really was getting a little better, but not good enough to be acceptable to me."

Teixeira said the injection was the first one he has had administered to his wrist. The tendinitis affects the switch-hitter most when he bats right-handed, but Teixeira is 0-for-9 with five strikeouts in three games since returning to the lineup on Tuesday against the Rays in St. Petersburg.

"It was getting a little better," Teixeira said. "This is going to put me over the top. A week is too long to not be able to swing."
