Yankees-Royals finale postponed by rain

KANSAS CITY -- The finale of a four-game series between the Yankees and Royals at Kauffman Stadium was postponed Monday due to inclement weather. The game will be made up on Monday, Aug. 25.

The game was officially called at 6:25 p.m. ET, after hours of steady rain.

New York starter Vidal Nuno, scheduled to attempt to salvage a split of the series against Kansas City's Jason Vargas, will kick off a three-game set in Seattle on Tuesday.

The rainout spoils a series-opening matchup between Japanese pitchers and former Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles (Nippon Professional Baseball) teammates Masahiro Tanaka and the Mariners' Hisashi Iwakuma.

Instead, everyone in the Yankees' rotation moves back a day, with Tanaka starting Wednesday and Chase Whitley wrapping up the series in Seattle on Thursday.

Kansas City took two of the three games in the rain-shortened series, including a 2-1 win Sunday.

The Yankees have dropped seven of 10 and have averaged 2.5 runs per game during that stretch.

The Royals had planned a presentation to honor Derek Jeter's career. This ceremony will take place on Aug. 25.
