Yankee Stadium to host wine tasting

NEW YORK -- Some might argue that the intersection of 161st St. and River Ave. in the Bronx is the baseball capital of the world.

Seems that intersection stays pretty busy during the winter months, as well.

Later this month, Sonoma-Cutrer Wines will host a wine tasting at NYY Steak, in the latest showcase of Yankee Stadium's offseason capabilities. When the Steinbrenner family first began drawing up plans for the new Yankee Stadium, they envisioned a facility that could be used year-round for concerts, non-baseball sporting events and other occasions.

Sonoma-Cutrer's event, to be held Jan. 26, is yet another example of that vision come to fruition. The wine tasting, which includes a cocktail hour and a five-course dinner, is the final event that winemaker Terry Adams will host before retirement.

Adams, the winemaker at Sonoma-Cutrer for nearly 30 years, announced his retirement in October.

Yankee Stadium's non-baseball events department offers 1.3 million square feet of event space, including a state-of-the-art banquet and conference center. The Yankees advertise hosting for groups of all sizes and events of all types, including fundraisers, trade shows, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings and picnics. In addition to NYY Steak, the stadium's upscale steakhouse which is open year-round, events can be held in the Hard Rock Cafe, the Delta Sky360 Suite, the Jim Beam Club, the Audi Yankees Club, the Mohegan Sun Sports Bar and the Legends Suite Club.

Sonoma-Cutrer Wines was founded as a vineyard company in 1973 and has since grown into one of the country's most renowned wineries. The company is best known for its award-winning Russian River Chardonnay, which will be served during the cocktail hour at the Yankee Stadium event.
