BOSTON -- The Yankees announced a small addition in the hours leading up to Thursday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver Trade Deadline, claiming right-hander Esmil Rogers off waivers from the Blue Jays.
Rogers, 28, posted a 6.97 ERA in 16 relief appearances over two stints with the Blue Jays this season before being designated for assignment on Sunday. He also saw time at Triple-A Buffalo, going 2-2 with a 3.14 ERA in 12 games (seven starts).
The Yankees also announced that they have unconditionally released infielder Scott Sizemore, who was with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Sizemore, 29, batted .313 (5-for-16) in six games with the big league club this season.
Rogers has appeared in 174 games (42 starts) over parts of six Major League seasons with the Rockies (2009-12), Indians (2012) and Blue Jays (2013-14), compiling a 16-21 record and a 5.59 ERA.
