Pettitte penciled in for Saturday

BOSTON -- Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte is tentatively in line to make his next start next Saturday against the Twins in New York.

Pettitte will be skipped from a start on Monday against the Tigers and replaced by right-hander Sergio Mitre, a precautionary measure after Pettitte was forced to leave his start on Wednesday against the Orioles after five innings with mild inflammation in his left elbow.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Pettitte will play catch on Monday and try a long-toss session on Tuesday at Detroit's Comerica Park before throwing a bullpen on Wednesday.

Pettitte -- who is 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA in six starts -- was not pleased with the decision to be skipped for Monday's start, wishing that the Yankees had given him the opportunity to plead his case.
