After rainout, Yanks plan for twin bill

DETROIT -- Tuesday's game at Comerica Park between the Yankees and Tigers was postponed due to rain and rescheduled as the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.

Javier Vazquez will pitch the first contest for New York, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET, and Phil Hughes will pitch the nightcap, beginning at 7:05 p.m.

Rick Porcello will pitch the first game for Detroit, and Jeremy Bonderman will pitch the second game.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he had been pulling for the game to be played as scheduled on Tuesday.

"[Day-night doubleheaders] are just hard on your guys physically," Girardi said. "It's hard on your pitching staff. It's hard to throw a guy in consecutive games. It's just difficult."

Vazquez said that he had started preparing for Tuesday's game but never warmed up.

A steady rain fell in Detroit for most of the afternoon and the tarpaulin never left the playing field, though workers did pull it back at one point to begin working on the mound.
