Begins his sixth season as Yankees pitching coach in 2016, his 42nd season in professional baseball as a player, coach or manager...since joining the Yankees in 2011, the club has a 2.90 K/BB ratio (6,513K, 2,247BB), the best mark in the AL and second-best mark in the Majors over the span (Washington - 2.98)...In 2015, Yankees pitchers struck out 1,370 batters, tying a single-season franchise record for strikeouts (also 2014)...was the fifth-highest total in the Majors in 2015, and second-highest in the AL...the club's 87 wins were its most since 2012 (95)...in 2014, Yankees pitchers posted a franchise-record 3.44 K/BB ratio (1,370K, 398BB)...Yankees starters combined for 71 wins in 2012, tied for third-most in the Majors...for the first time since 2006, the Yankees had three starters earn at least 15 wins (Hughes, Kuroda and Sabathia)...oversaw the Yankees' 2011 pitching staff, which led the AL in strikeouts (1,222)...Served as the Chicago Cubs' pitching coach for nine seasons (2002-10)...The Cubs' team ERA ranked in the top five of the NL in three straight seasons from 2007-09...Cubs pitchers led the Majors in strikeouts in each of his first seven seasons with the club (2002-08), including a then-single-season Major League-record 1,404K in 2003...Was a member of World Series-winning coaching staffs with the Cincinnati Reds in 1990 and the Florida Marlins in 1997...Began his coaching career as a roving minor league pitching instructor for Cincinnati from 1986-89, before joining their Major League staff as bullpen coach from 1990-91 and then pitching coach from 1992-93...served as Atlanta's roving minor league pitching instructor in 1994...was the Florida Marlins' pitching coach from 1995-97... Served as the first manager in Tampa Bay Devil Rays history, named to the post on 11/7/97...went 205-294 from 1998 through 4/18/01... raised the team's winning pct. in each of his three full seasons...finished the 2001 season as a consultant to the Marlins...was named to Joe Torre's 2000 AL All-Star coaching staff.


Pitched for 11 years from 1975-85 with the Cincinnati and Detroit organizations, going 66-46 with 50 saves and a 3.96 ERA in 387 minor league games (80GS)...Signed by the Reds as a non-drafted free agent in 1975...Made seven career Major League relief appearances with the Tigers in 1981 and '82, recording a 5.40 ERA...Made his MLB debut on 9/11/81 vs. Cleveland (0.1IP, 1IBB).


Married (Jane) and has three children, Charlotte (a 2015 NYU graduate), Claire (a sophomore at NYU) and Scott...attended Bradley University and Florida State University, graduating from FSU with a degree in business management...was a member of FSU's 1975 NCAA Regional Championship team.
